Central to Dr. Kustra’s philosophy of healing is the
belief that we all have innate healing power and the potential
to be truly well. She feels that illness is a sign of imbalance
in the mind and body, whereas health, rather than just being
the absence of disease, is the attainment of our full physical
and spiritual potential. These beliefs guide her practice
as she draws on both integrative and conventional therapies
to support and nurture her clients on their path towards
well-being. She has a special interest in nutritional healing,
the mind-body connection, and Functional Medicine – a
new approach to healthcare which explores how an individual’s
unique biochemical makeup interfaces with his/her environment
to create disease or health.
Dr. Kustra takes a holistic approach to family medicine
-- believing that one’s family and social network,
cultural and spiritual practices, belief patterns, stressors,
genes and environment all contribute to one’s
state of health. She enjoys listening to her patients, and learning about
these causal factors so that healing can occur at a fundamental level.
She believes that personal empowerment through self-discovery,
knowledge, and understanding is crucial to well-being.
In addition to her work at True North, Dr. Kustra also
teaches medical students and residents at Central Maine Medical
Center and Maine Medical Center.
